What to expect on the day

The team attending each site will include a GPhC-registered pharmacist, a pharmacy technician and an additional team member to help students with the form. The form takes about a minute to complete. Each student will also have a brief eligibility and clinical assessment before being vaccinated.

Students should bring their NHS number if they know it. It is not essential and no one will be turned away without it.

Who can have the vaccine

This is part of the NHS meningitis B (MenB) vaccination programme for young people. Students who are 17 or 18 and were born between 1 September 2007 and 31 August 2008 can have the vaccine free of charge. They need to be registered with a GP surgery in England.

Students do not need to wait for the college clinics. They can also book a free appointment at nhs.uk/book-menb or by calling 119.

Students starting university, or moving into college accommodation for the first time this autumn, may be able to get the vaccine as a walk-in at a participating pharmacy. They should take evidence of their university or college offer with them. Details are on the same NHS page.

The vaccine is given in two doses, at least four weeks apart.
